1966-1970

1966- Mhow- It had been always enchanting when I read about Mhow and the army. I had long seven years of stay in Mhow. I studied from 6th standard to the Higher Secondary (year 11) there. Rajeshwer Vidyala. Formerly known as the Sacred Heart High School. It was a great school. Even today it is famous for its products of Doctors, Engineers and army heroes. I consider myself very lucky to have got the opportunity to study there. It really did mould my life the way I am today. Had the best of teachers, had my diversified studies in Zoology and Botany aiming to become a doctor. If not me, my classmates did reach there..

We stayed in the army residential quarters in MCTE. Near the open air theatre. I had a nice playful time in my young days. I had a group of boys in my team and we played hockey, cricket, cycling , story telling and what not. Life went on...

1968 -London-Sydney Marathon : It was on Dec 1st or 2nd 1968 when all the M.C.T.E boys gathered to witness the Marathon on Bombay- Agra road during an afternoon. We boys of the army colony were all geared in canvas shoes and half trousers to walk atleast foty minutes through the army area fences and grassy uneven civilan area towards the Bombay-Agra road. We did see a lot of foreign cars which were broad and long in shapes and they were muddy and humming in front of us as they all had great speed and non-stopping in the way they went across our eyes as flashes.

I always used to recall the moment and I remember with me was Reghu Raman (Arun) my young companion and friend. Also I think Mahesh Pant and his brothers were there.Vinod Kumar Verma who recently confirmed from Sri Lanka that he also witnessed the Marathon with me that day.I had no idea that later in my life I would be in Sydney and would also see the spot the Marathon ended those days known as Warwick Farms. (These days, it is an industrial area though.) I managed to google and am glad I found the 1968 Marathon details at last which further revived my memory; Utube Part 1of 4 utube.
